In the second half of Fast Food Nation , Scholesser discusses how many fast food restaurants approach their employees. He begins talk about how these fast food corporations generally target teenage employers so that only minimum wage is "cashed out " . Most americans can relate to that topics because many of our local fast food restaurants are infested with teenager. He goes into more detail about the other types of people these vendors target such as elderly people and immigrants because they assume these types of people won't complain about the pay they recieve. Not only did he speak about the people they approach but he also touches upon the environment these people are put in . He tells how the company chooses to make all the equipment as easy to manage as possible so that they dont have to train their employees to make the food on the menu. This information alone shows you what is on the minds of these companies. Most of them all have the same idea but they express them in differents but in the end they all end up displaying negetive effects. clarification: While reading this chunk did you , at all , feel as if these fast food corporations were prejudice ?application: Did it surprise you at all when the author mentioned that these restaurnats target most teengers?
yes i did get that vibe. i did not like that they put themselves out to seem that way either. i did not like how they felt that they should employ immigrants teens etc just so they could get over.
ReplyDeleteyes it did kind of surprise me. only because i actually thought that all businesses felt that teens were just a waste of time and would not actually come to work. but when i found out that they just target us to work for low pay and then on top of that they do not even care about us as employees i was highly surprised. were you surprised when they executives said they did not want to train their employees at all?
ReplyDeleteUm, not really because young people will take just about any job; and yes I was surprised about the prejudices because I mean I think a worker is a worker; as long as they can get the job done.
